Tim is the best babysitter in the world. Helena is lucky to have such a precious big brother.

AHSDOHASHDAS *smooshes Tim’s face*

Tim does sincerely try to be a good big brother, I think. And I think that’s a large part of the reason for the animosity between him and Damian, because Tim was willing to be nice to him, to treat him cordially at first. But Damian rejected that, and Tim does not handle rejection well.

This reminds me of “Wed! Wed! Wed!” “Yes, my suit is red. Yeah, it’s red. I know it’s red.”

I’ve got a head-canon where Tim checks in on Helena and her new family at least once a week after she’s been given up for adoption, either in person or remotely, just to make sure she’s doing ok. Neither Bruce nor Selina knows he does this.

The new family notices Tim after a couple weeks and confronts him one day about this. He spins a tale about being her half-brother under an alias he makes up on the fly, and that he was worried about her and misses her. Of course toddler!Helena remembers Tim and is delighted to see him. He tells the family he’s doing this secretly because he knows how hard it was for “mom” to give Helena up. He leaves the family on amicable terms and immediately upon returning home, knowing the family will do a background check on him, he hacks the computer system and interjects himself into Helena’s birth family records.

Once he clears their background check, Helena’s new family allows him to visit his “little sister” whenever he wants, so long as he gives some advanced notice.

This started back when he was still “Robin” before everything involving Damian and Final Crisis where Bruce “died”.

Once he became Red Robin, and after he returned to Gotham after tracking down Bruce through time, one of the first things he did was to track down Helena’s family because he hadn’t had any contact with them for about a year. (Tim went on a serious guilt trip when he realized he’d inadvertently forgotten about them.) Tam was with him when he went to visit them in person, because she caught him looking up the information at work (They’d moved in the year while Tim was dealing with Ra’s).

Helena (now age 3-4?) was so happy to see her big brother again, and her family was actually happy to see him too. They’d been worried that something bad had happened to him when he suddenly dropped off. He explained that some really serious shit had gone down on his father’s side of the family that he really couldn’t talk about.

(Helena’s adopted family secretly assume that Tim’s father’s family is somewhat troubled and abusive, based on how starved he’s seemed over the years for normal human affection, the bruises/injuries Tim tried to keep hidden whenever he visited in person, and how concerned he was about Helena’s family treating her well. Helena’s new father is a child psychologist, of all things, so it’s what he’s observed, but he won’t confront Tim, because Tim never seems ready or willing to talk about it. He’s already told Tim that if he ever wants to talk about things, he will be there to listen.)

Tam is introduced as Tim’s “best friend”, who has been helping him deal with his family crap over the year (which is truth), and Helena’s family is told that if they ever lose contact with Tim, they can contact Tam to find him.

Several weeks after this, after the fiasco involving Captain Boomerang and Mr. Freeze, Tim sits down, realizes how fucked up his life is, how close he is to stepping over that line between hero and villain, and calls Helena’s father for a private session, advising him to set aside an entire day for it.

Tim, very reluctantly, after probably a solid hour of just sitting in his office in silence, gradually opens. He starts off by telling the psychologist…

“I’m sorry… But practically everything you know about me is a lie…”

At the end of this first session (and there are many more. Tim gets penciled in for regular weekly visits), Helena’s father tells Tim…

“You know, Tim… You were wrong earlier. Not everything I know about you has been a lie.” When Tim gave him a confused look, the psychologist clarified slowly and clearly. ”I have always known that you’re a good kid. You care about others far more than yourself, to the point where you neglect your own well-being, both physically, mentally, and emotionally. I also know that, regardless of all you’ve told me today, you love and care about Helena. She may not be related to you by blood, but that doesn’t matter. As far as you’re concerned, she is your little sister.” He placed a hand on Tim’s shoulder. ”And as far as I’m concerned, you are her big brother, and she’s lucky to have someone like you in her life.”

While Helena’s father told him this, Tim kept his head bowed and his eyes closed. He didn’t allow himself to hope, after revealing all the lies, that Helena’s father would allow him to stay in his little sister’s life. Tim was fully expecting to be rejected and cast out of this normal, caring family he’d come to love. That he wasn’t rejected, and that he was still accepted despite all his self-perceived faults, really shook him to his core.

This all helps start Tim on a path to finally healing some of those deep emotional wounds he carries inside of himself.

You are a perfect person.

I AM IN AWE, WOMAN. IN. AWE.

This is the most wonderful thing ever. And I can’t help but think that Tam would be just as in love with Helena as Tim is, and every time she gets called because everyone’s worried about Tim, she gets a hold of him and just…scolds him mercilessly and says she hopes he got that poor baby something nice and just on and on and on…

We should all write this together. We should do it. We should.
